Samantha is a special, fun loving and intelligent dog who so the most independent thinking dog I have ever had the privilege of sharing my life. Being born on Halloween was on the beginning of doing things her way! I soon learned that Sami would be showing ME how she would like to live our loves together. This unique partnership is how we have spent the last nine and a half years. Conformation was a breeze for Sami. She finished her championship in three weekends with four majors. This was a blessing because she would eat the pockets out of all of my show clothes. Actually, she still does.
Even though draft work is near and dear to my heart, Sami had different ideas. She soon taught me that without food, there was not draft. Once I learned that, we were carting just fine. I must admit that Sami teaching me obedience was her biggest challenge. We waited until we were both veterans. I foolishly thought that as more mature girls we could come to an easy understanding about what constituted “teamwork” in the ring. Hmmm. Many judge who saw our creative routines were caught laughing out loud at this happy, bewitching, and single minded black dog. On more than one occasion, she would come in from the recall only to put her head between my knees waiting for a butt scratch. Sami’s retirement years are kept busy playing with her daughter, grand daughter, and great grand daughter. She loves being a therapy dog, serving as a Delta Society Pet Partner. She is my constant companion.
We should all learn, as Sami has always known, it doesn’t matter what you do, it matters how much fun you can have doing it! Truly, Sami is the Light in my every day. Thanks Sammer Jammer for so many smiles.

* Samantha was take from me quickly one week before her eleventh birthday. She had a brain tumor and was gone from my side in a couple of weeks. I now cherish those silly holey pockets, these four years later.
